PS3 price drop attracts many new customers

The PS3 has recently lowered their price. which sparked a huge sale boost. Sony said this was what it was waiting for, and now they should expect for the trend to continue in a positive manner. The low-end model with a 40GB hard drive is now 399, and the high-end 80 gig unit is 499. This reflects a hundred dollar drop in each price.

This puts Sony in a very good position to sell many new systems. The Wii has been having problems keeping up with demand, and this makes the Playstation 3 more affordable to a larger group of consumers. With the Christmas season coming up, they should set new record sales, and the PS3 will most likely really start to take off.

Fight piracy with new technology?

It looks like the movie industry is trying to fight piracy now just like the music industry has been doing for years. I just found an article in the news pertaining to file-sharing and peer-to-peer networks at universities used for sharing these files. Universities are a hotspot for such illegal file sharing activities, and they are the new target to single out for stopping piracy.

There is a new bill that would make colleges create a plan to fight such illegal activities. They are promoting new programs such as Ruckus, which allow downloading I believe, but they are in file formats that are different from the norm. For a fee, you can get a regular format for burning and such, but I would think it would be very easy to get around such measures.

Also, I don't think there will be a whole lot of progress made to stop piracy by using such tactics. It is now pretty much out of control, and I don't see it coming to an end anytime soon. I know my university has already taken actions to do this, but their efforts have not really had any affect as far as I know.

Man loses memory overnight

This isn't really too technology oriented, but it does show how far our medical technology has advanced. I like reading the health news to see the interesting stories and new technologies advancing constantly. Recently, I found an interesting story of a man with memory loss problems, and those are always quite interesting to me.

There was a man that had been complaining about insomnia and memory loss problems over the last few months, and then one day he just flat out lost his memory. He went to the doctor and had many tests performed on him. It ended up being caused by a cancer he had, in which his antibodies were attacking his healthy brain cells.

This attack of antibodies caused severe memory loss.After sessions of chemotherapy and other treatment, his memory has started to return, and hopefully he makes a full recovery in the end. These problems are always hard to solve, and luckily he got a good doctor that could find out the cause behind the problems. The technology keeps advancing, and its fascinating to see how quickly problems can be found these days.

China blasting off to space

China is starting a new ten year venture into space technology and discovery. China just sent its first lunar probe into space which is the first step in their new exploration mission. Their plan is to send a rover to the moon and then back to earth eventually.

This particular venture is going to be used to study the chemical and mineral composition of the moon's surface. China was the third country to send a man into space, and is now continuing the journey and investigation of space.

New technological advance for electric car industry

I just saw this little commuter car by Subaru, the G4E. It's not your everyday car though. It's an electric-powered car that is the new trend for environmentally friendly automobiles. This new offering isn't a hydrogen car like many other anti-smog cars being thought about by the other manufacturers. Instead, it's run purely off electricity from batteries.

There is supposed to be a new version of this car coming out which can go four hundred kilometers on a single charge, which I find very impressive. I think this electricity-powered idea would be a great direction for the automobile manufacturers to go in. Instead of having gas stations, you can have electricity stations. It may not be quite as convenient for people, but you could also charge the car up at home. I think it's a great idea.

Google entering wireless market

Google is trying to gain even more power by entering a new market. They are planning on turning mobile phones into powerful mobile computers, and, with the resources they possess, it shouldn't be a problem for them. These phones with Google's software aren't supposed to be available until around the midpoint of next year, and I am curious to see what kind of gadgets will be produced.

This will likely come as a hit to Microsoft's smart-phones, and there is a nice feature that is very appealing to this software. It is supposed to be open source, which will enable it to be altered as various companies see fit. Google is always on the leading edge because of their massive wealth and influence, and I'm sure this will be no exception.

Myspace and Google vs Facebook

Myspace and Google have recently teamed up to make plans to create OpenSocial, which will allow for programmers to create applications that work for a variety of these social-networking sites. There are also a lot of other networks joining such as Friendster and Plaxo. Facebook has recently been taking over the competition, and they are not a member of this creation.

It looks to me like they are just teaming up to take over Facebook, but I don't see this having much affect at all on them. They have captured the college and highschool audience, and the site is a lot better in my opinion. Everything is more organized and the programs are much better. It's not a bad try, but I don't see it having any effect.
